Project Descript:
The distinctive design of the “Steamer Lite” pushes the boundaries of the traditional glass chandelier. Designed primarily for functional use as an avant-garde ambient light fixture suspended above the eating area in a kitchen, it can also be a playful sculptural piece that shimmers by night.
The shade of the light fixture is constructed by using materials that enhance the industrial style such as: the stainless steel collapsible pieces of a steamer spray painted red; a strainer from a deep fryer; decorative brass bolts; couplings and plumbing materials. The light source is produced by two medium based 25 watt 120 volts globe incandescent bulbs, each one screwed into a two-sided socket.
When suspended, the light fixture hangs down at approximately 3’ – 11” to 4’-3” from the ceiling, depending on the position of the levered triangular edging. Similarly, the width ranges from 9” to 1’-3” (fully open).
